White and White Kitchen

Creating a Black & White Kitchen

The concept of black and white kitchens has been around for a long time and continues to be a popular trend, due to its timeless style.  From retro, “diner” charm, to modern and clean, here are some tips and tricks for creating a fabulous black and white kitchen!

Appliances

While everyone knows that appliances are an essential to any kitchen, they are often not considered before other elements.  In a black and white kitchen, though, it is especially important to select the color of appliances first, as that will be a large portion of your color scheme.  For more modern kitchens, many people like stainless steel, which can tie into a black and white design theme relatively well.

Flooring

Another key element in creating your dream black and white kitchen is choosing flooring that is both stylish and functional.  Tile makes a great flooring choice, due to its wide array of colors, as well as its strength and ease of cleaning.  For a retro look, black and white alternating works well.  If you prefer a more contemporary look, consider using natural stone tiles in blacks, such as granite or slate, or whites, like marble or travertine.

Cabinetry

Choosing cabinetry for your black and white kitchen really can be one of the harder decisions, as there are so many options.  While classic white or rich black are obvious choices, many people also incorporate a variety of rich wood choices into black and white kitchens.  If you are on a tight budget, consider painting your existing cabinets either black or white for a fresh look without the expense associated with purchasing new.

Countertops

In most cases, you will want to select countertops that contrast with your cabinet choice, while still coordinating the color scheme of black and white.  Due to its varying veins and specks of color, as well as strength and beauty, natural stone is one of the top choices for kitchen countertops.  Stark white with schemes of black and grey coloring is a popular choice, as well as charcoal or black countertops, which make a bold statement when paired with white cabinetry.

Backsplash

A final touch that will bring your black and white kitchen all together is a creative backsplash that draws the eye and adds interest to the space.  Glass tile makes a beautiful choice, and is available in shades of black, white, grey, and silver.  For a more subdued look, making the backsplash an extension of your countertops, by matching it exactly, is an option that many people love.
