Marble and Wood Living Room

Mixing Marble & Wood Elements

The timeless beauty and elegance of marble, paired with the warmth of natural wood, is a design trend that has gained tremendous popularity over the last year or so. From very modern and eclectic styled homes to those that follow much more traditional fashions, mixing marble and wood elements is easy. Here are some ideas to get you started.

Flooring

Marble tiles and hardwood planks have each been considered a favorite material to use in flooring for countless years. When combined, though, they make a statement that is breathtaking. One way to combine them is with patterns, such as diamond shaped wood planks, with the centers filled in with marble tiles. Another way to mingle these two elements together is by creating a wood flooring “rug” in the center of your marble floored area. This works well in dining areas, entryways, or even living rooms.

Fireplace

As a focal point of a room, the fireplace is another great area to mix wood and marble elements. Traditional marble works great when used as a fireplace tile, and adding a wood mantle, trim, or even wood shelving units really can enhance the look.

Bathroom

Whether you want to add to the “wow factor” of a large master bathroom, or simply increase the appeal of a small powder room, combining marble and wood elements in the bathroom will help to add character, impact, and style. Marble makes a really fabulous countertop choice, and wood is the likely material choice for vanities. If you want to go a step further, combine wood plantation blinds with marble window sills or marble flooring with wood décor elements.

Kitchen

Another place in the home that seems to be a natural choice for combining marble and wood elements is the kitchen. For a classic pairing, consider marble flooring and countertops matched with deep wood cabinetry. For a more modern, and creative concept, wood flooring paired with a marble waterfall island is a great idea. View some of our favorite kitchens for more inspiration.

Walls

While most people do not consider adding marble or wood to their walls, it can be a great way to add a focal point or interest to an otherwise plain canvas. Whether you are dressing up the wall space behind the television in the living room, or adding interest to the wall area behind the bed of a master suite, marble tile with wood shelving, wood trim, or even wood patterns mixed throughout can transform a wall into a piece of art.
