Fast and Easy Holiday Decor

It’s the time of year that makes you believe in magic and stare at beautiful lights glittering in the night.

What’s more iconic of the winter season than fresh garlands, glittering tinsel, and twinkle lights filling your whole house?

The holidays are the perfect time to add a festive sparkle to your home. But with all your shopping for presents and rushing to get your big dinner put together, sometimes your home’s holiday decor can fall to the wayside.

Whether you’re getting ready to have family over for a warm holiday meal or you want to get into the festive spirit, here are 7 tips for fast and easy holiday decor.

Fairy Lights

Fairy lights are one of the quickest and easiest ways to promote holiday cheer in your home decor. Fairy lights sparkle at night and add a warm ambiance during the day. Hang these lights across your curtains, set them in an oversized glass jar, or use them on the walls. You can even use fairy lights as part of your table decor by setting them into a series of different sized mason jars and surrounding them with pine sprigs and pillar candles.

Candy Dishes and Treats to Go

Holiday treats are what it’s all about. If you’re running low on time and want some fast and easy holiday decorations, try setting out your best candy dishes around the house and putting in red and green gummy candies, peppermints, or even a tray of home baked cookies. You can use store-bought, too (we won’t tell).

Festive Candles

Candles are a great choice for decorating, especially last minute, since most households have them on hand. They can also be inexpensive if you take advantage of buying seasonal scents during holiday sales.

Your sense of smell can tie into memories and can even encourage positive sensations in the brain. Do a little last minute holiday decorating by placing small groups of holiday themed candles around the room. Choose scents that reflect the season, such as brisk pine or spicy apple cinnamon. Make your candle display extra festive by tying cinnamon sticks around the candle, or cut twigs to the candle’s height. Secure the sticks with an elastic band and tie a red ribbon into a bow around it.

Put up a Wreath

There are many festive wreaths available for purchase that go along with just about every design style. Choose pine wreaths covered in snow, have a wreath with your family name on it, or choose one covered in tinsel and bells. No matter what area you’re decorating: your porch, your dining room, or your living space, you can go from zero to 100 with this easy holiday decor item.

Make a Snowman Fridge

Your white fridge can easily be made into a snowman by buying some poms at your local craft store. Simply attach the poms to magnets. Use small poms to create the smiling mouth, a large orange pom for his ‘carrot’ nose, medium black poms for the eyes and blue magnetic poms for his button down coat. This is a quick and easy holiday decor that children are going to adore.

Easy Centerpiece

If you’re running short on time but still want to get a beautiful centerpiece on the table, try filling up a couple hurricane vases with pine cones or spare ornaments. You can even choose to sprinkle the pinecones with glitter or cinnamon sticks to give them an extra festive appearance.

Snowflake Garland

If you’re looking for a fast and easy DIY decor idea, look no further than the snowflake garland. Find an assortment of fabric or paper doilies and hangthem from a twine ribbon. Lay the ribbon across your fireplace or along the doorway for an adorably shabby chic “snowflake” effect.
